Elections

The Grand Canyon Historical Society (GCHS) will be appointing new members to the board this fall to serve three-year terms. Board member duties are not exhaustive, requiring attendance in person (or virtually) to meetings only four times per year and helping on at least one committee.

If you are interested in serving on the board, please send a nominee submission that includes a brief bio of no more than 250 words that includes a statement describing qualifications, relevant skill set(s), and eligibility as described below, by September 30, 2025 to: GCHS Secretary at secretary@grandcanyonhistory.org

Qualifications to serve a three-year term are:

  • Must be a dues-paying GCHS member for at least 365 consecutive days prior to September 30, 2025.
  • Must demonstrate dedication to the Society by contributing in measurable ways such as submitting articles for publication in “The Ol’ Pioneer”, previously presenting at a GCHS Symposium, participating in virtual or in-person outings, or serving on a GCHS committee for the 365 days prior to September 30, 2025.
  • All applicants must comply with GCHS Policy 4.1 – Board Member Code of Ethics, Duties, and Responsibilities.

Other Board member duties include providing input on Board decisions, electing officers, selecting scholarship and award recipients, help on in-person or virtual outings, and planning/implementing the next History Symposium (tentatively scheduled for November, 2027).

Board members do not have to live in Flagstaff or at the Grand Canyon as a lot of business is conducted online, phone and email. These are volunteer positions; attendance at all meetings is strongly encouraged. Board meetings are usually conducted in Flagstaff or at the South Rim from one to four times a year, though some are also conducted virtually. Ideally, Board members will attend the annual meeting in January where officers are elected.

Having an active board and officers is critical to maintaining a healthy and active society – please consider applying or nominating someone.
