Born in 1930, Stan grew up on his parents dairy farm outside of Manan, Idaho. In High School, Stan enjoyed science class and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints seminary class. After two years of community college where he enjoyed geology class, Stan spent two years on his LDS Mission, then two years in the Army during the Korean War. Then it was back to school for a PhD in geology. When Stan arrived at Flagstaff in 1962 to teach Geology, he was the only Geology professor. In a few short years the Geology Department at today’s NAU came together under his leadership.
