Tuesday, December 9, 2025 Robert Lauzon will present "Romance on the Rim: Three Generations of the Bass & Lauzon Pioneer Family"

Robert Lauzon’s presentation tells the story of romance at the Grand Canyon and how it became the backdrop for three marriages. The cast of characters includes: a formally educated spinster from New York and Grand Canyon pioneer William Wallace Bass. The spinster was smitten by Bass and the canyon and their marriage and children became a key story in canyon history.
Other cast members include: a young man named Bert Lauzon who drifted to the canyon looking for adventure where he met Edith Bass, eldest of the Bass children. Lauzon also joined the Kolb brother’s river expedition running the final and most dangerous part of the Colorado River. Bert and Edith’s love for the canyon and horses grew into an unbreakable bond.
The final act of the story introduces Harriot Silverstein, a retired army nurse traveling across the US after being discharged after WWII who found herself at the Grand Canyon. There, she met Loren Lauzon, a Fred Harvey employee, who romanced her into staying at the canyon and becoming his bride. Their son, Robert, will share their stories.
