Grand Canyon Historical Society

Tours of the Apex Archaeology Project

June 7 and June 17, 10 AM

Emily Dale, an historical archaeologist at Northern Arizona University, is running an archaeological field school at Apex, Arizona, a 1928-1936 logging camp along the Grand Canyon Railway, in collaboration with the Kaibab National Forest. A large part of their mission is public engagement and community outreach. To that end, they are inviting members of the community on tours of their project!

Up to 15 visitors per tour date will have the unique opportunity to learn about the history of Apex and the Grand Canyon Railway, observe excavation, survey, and artifact analysis, and learn about the importance of Arizona’s historical archaeology. Public tour days are scheduled for Saturday, June 7 and Tuesday, June 17 at 10am.
Anyone can sign up and join for a tour.  To reserve a spot, email Emily Dale at emily.dale@nau.edu with your name, email address, and number of people in your party. To learn more about the Apex Project, the project web site and artifact blog.
