A Great Archeological Experience for the Group Attending!
In 1928, the Saginaw and Manistee Lumber Co, established the town of Apex along the Grand Canyon Railway.  Located near present day Tusayan, Apex was sited where ponderosa pine timber was harvested for railroad ties and building materials.  Scattered artifacts remain today to show that Apex once hosted a railroad siding, logging spurs, maintenance buildings, homes, and a schoolhouse.  An archaeology field school run by NAU conducts surveys and excavations at the site each summer.  Our guide on this field trip will be NAU professor and archaeologist Dr. Emily Dale.  Please Join Us!
