Born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa, Mike graduated from the University of Iowa in Journalism in 1986. Soon after he moved to Phoenix for work as an insurance adjuster. Mike’s first Grand canyon backpack was on the Tanner Trail in the fall of 1989. As a storm with a rainbow rolled in over the Palisades of the Desert, he was hooked. This is a 5 part interview.
