After thirty-two years working for the National Park Service on the South Rim, Mike Quinn has retired. In 2007, Mike was honored with the Society’s Pioneer Award for his many contributions to the community and GCHS.
Here is the text from his award –
Presented with appreciation to Mike Quinn
For his expertise in digitizing, accessing, and archiving Grand Canyon historical photographs from local collections and other sources around the country for the permanent collections at Grand Canyon National Park;
for serving as a photo archivist at Grand Canyon National Park to help answer researcher’s questions on cultural subjects or persons through digital historical photos;
for his assistance in documenting the historical changes at Grand Canyon Village, Tusayan, Phantom Ranch, Desert View, and the North Rim as well as trails, archaeological sites, and flash floods;for maintaining the Grand Canyon National Park website,answering emails, and providing additional research resources;
and for his personal contributions to the cultural history of Grand Canyon municipalities through videos such as “Tusayan Forever,” Fred Harvey training films, 4th of July celebrations and other local cultural celebrations at Grand Canyon.
