The Grand Canyon Pioneers Society Pioneer Award for 2008 was presented to Leland "Lee"C. Albertson for:
- his active participation as a 25-year member of the Grand Canyon Pioneers/Historical Society (1984 to present);
-
his leadership and contributions to the Society’s Board of Directors (1996-2005, 2008), serving as Secretary (1997-2001, 2005) and as President (2002-2004);
-
organizing the Society’s annual Easter Sunrise Service at Grand Canyon, Arizona;
-
his contributions as an avid Grand Canyon backpacker, Colorado River runner, and historian;
-
his contribution to helping organize the first Grand Canyon History Symposium in 2002 and his history presentation “Kolb Airfield 1926” (monograph chapter 3);
-
helping to establish the Grand Canyon Historical Society’s collection at the Cline Library, Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona; and
-
his personal contributions and outstanding leadership abilities as coordinator and spokesman for the 2007 Grand Canyon History Symposium at Grand Canyon National Park, January 2007.
